(Disclosure: This book was pretty much the tipping point for redoing my site yet again and changing it from Organize + Amuse to Good Stuff, Nicole.)
I LOVE this book. As someone who thoroughly enjoys purging and organizing shit, I have fleeting fantasies about becoming a personal organizer. But I don't own or want a label maker and going to The Container Store doesn't excite me. Walking into someone's house (even invited or hired) like I know what's best for them seems rather presumptuous. I think that was part of the problem I was running into when trying to write for Organize + Amuse. It felt too much like I was trying to have all the answers and God knows I don't. You gotta find what works for you and Organize Your Way does that.
Katie and Kelly of PixiesDidIt! are sisters and personal organizers with differing personalities who realized that perhaps there isn't ONE best way to organize. Their site and book includes a quiz to determine your "Pixie Type" and then goes through each section of your home with universal solutions for organizing before going into specific recommendations for your personality tendencies.
I'm an "Organic Freedom", which means I like things to be visible (especially when it comes to remembering them!), detest routines (unless it's fun) and prefer flexible scheduling. I do best finishing things NOW rather than later (SO much truth in that!), tend to be a "piler" of stuff (it just happens!), and I often keep a mental To Do list unless it gets too long and then I bust out my Evernote or random scraps of paper. I love reading the descriptions about each type (Organic/Smart/Fun/Classic and either Freedom or Structure) and feel like I know what type certain friends and family would be if they took the quiz.
So if you're looking to de-crap and organize your home, office, garage, etc. in a way that works for YOU, Organize Your Way is an awesome place to start. Or take the quiz and hire me to purge your place- haha!
